Privacy policy

Last updated 1 October 2026.

This policy covers happygutfuel.com. It is written to be read rather than to be impenetrable, and it describes what actually happens rather than every theoretical possibility.

Who we are

HappyGutFuel is the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at hello@happygutfuel.com.

What we collect

If you join the email list

Your email address, and the profile result if you reached us through the gut check. We use the profile so the emails you get match the answers you gave rather than being generic. We also record which page you signed up from, so we know which parts of the site are useful.

If you take the gut check without signing up

Nothing. The questions run entirely in your browser and your answers are not sent anywhere unless you choose to enter an email address at the end.

If you email us

Your address and whatever you write. Kept while the conversation is open and for a reasonable period after, then deleted.

Legal basis

For the email list, consent — you asked for it, and you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email. For correspondence, legitimate interests in replying to you.

Who it's shared with

Our email provider, who stores the list and sends the emails on our behalf. Our host, Netlify, who serves the site. Nobody else. We do not sell, rent or trade your data, and we don't pass it to the brands we write about.

Cookies and tracking

The site sets one item of browser storage, remembering whether you chose dark mode. That's a preference, not tracking, and it never leaves your device.

Affiliate links are a separate matter. When you click through to a retailer, that retailer may set its own cookie to attribute a purchase to us. That happens on their site under their policy, not ours. Amazon's is on amazon.co.uk.

How long we keep it

Email addresses until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, and for a short period after so we don't accidentally re-add you. Correspondence for up to two years.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to how we use it, or ask for it in a portable format. Email hello@happygutfuel.com and we'll respond within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled a request, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

This site isn't aimed at under-18s and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we'll update the date at the top and, where the change affects how we use your data, tell the email list.
